Colchester’s Independent Opticians
At Bethell & Clark we are free to choose from a wide selection of quality spectacle lens manufacturers including Essilor, Zeiss, and Hoya. We are an Essilor Specialist and offer innovative, high quality products such as Varilux X Series Varifocals, Digitime computer lenses and Eyezen Anti-Fatigue lenses.
This means we can offer you a wider range of much more advanced lens types than the high street chains, together with a more personal service that caters for your specific requirements, lifestyle and budget.
Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS)
Available to all people registered with a GP practice within the North East Essex or Mid Essex NHS CCG. If you have a red eye or eye pain, sudden loss of vision or sudden onset double vision, lid lumps or new flashes and floaters we can see you for an NHS funded examination.
You can self-refer by speaking to our receptionists about your symptoms or you may be directed to us by your GP, pharmacist or another optometrist for an examination. Our receptionists will ask you a few short triage questions to gauge the urgency of your symptoms – where necessary we can offer you an appointment within 24hrs.
Complete Spectacle Aftercare
Whenever it is necessary, our qualified dispensing opticians are happy to re-adjust your spectacles to ensure they are comfortable and provide you with the best possible vision. Minor repairs such as refitting lost screws, can usually be done while you wait. Please call in if you experience and problems with the fit or condition of your spectacles. More drastic repairs can usually be dealt with the same day in our on-site lab.
